Claude Talk is Anthropic's umbrella term for its voice conversation features. It encompasses two modes: one that lets you speak and listen entirely within the claude.ai web and mobile apps, and another that lets you control your terminal by voice using the /voice command in Claude Code. Both are available in beta across all plans, including Japanese voice support. This article covers the setup, capabilities, and limitations of both modes in one place.
Claude Talk is the umbrella term for Anthropic's AI assistant Claude's voice interaction features. Instead of typing text, you can speak into your microphone and hear Claude's responses as audio.
It launched first on iOS and Android mobile apps in May 2025, and expanded to web browsers and desktop in early 2026 (Source: Claude AI Voice Mode 2026).
One of its key features is the ability to seamlessly switch between text and voice within the same conversation. This allows flexible usage such as "voice only when out and about, voice + keyboard on desktop."
You can also access voice mode directly via claude.ai/talk (login required).
Click the waveform (voice) icon to the right of the text input field
Select "Allow" in the browser's microphone access permission dialog
Choose a conversation mode: "Hands-free" or "Push to talk"
Speak and your voice will be recognized automatically, with Claude responding in audio
Hands-free mode detects natural pauses in speech and sends automatically. Push-to-talk mode only records while you hold the button, making it well-suited for noisy environments.
Steps for iOS and Android Apps
Launch the Claude app
Tap the microphone icon in the text input field at the bottom
Select "Allow access to microphone"
Speak and your voice will be recognized, with Claude's response played back as audio
In the app, you can freely switch between "voice-only conversation mode" and "mode combined with text input." The conversation context from previous turns is preserved when switching modes.

Google Workspace Integration for Paid Plans (Beta)
On Pro and higher plans, you can control Google Workspace through voice conversation.
Gmail: Request thread summaries or draft replies by voice
Google Calendar: Just say "What's on my schedule today?" to check
Google Docs: Ask questions or request edits to document content by voice
Integration with Zoom (beta) also allows experimental use of real-time meeting transcription and action item tracking.
Launch Claude Code in the terminal (the claude command)
Type /voice in the chat field and press Enter
Allow microphone access
Hold the spacebar and speak
Release the spacebar and your voice will be converted to text and automatically entered into the prompt
Boost Productivity with Hybrid Input
The strength of Claude Code /voice is that you can combine text and voice within a single prompt.
Parts requiring precise spelling, such as file paths and variable names → keyboard input
Natural language instructions like "explain what this code does" → voice input
This combination lets you convey complex instructions quickly without taking your eyes off the keyboard.
Settings for Using in Japanese
claude.ai (Web and Mobile)
The claude.ai web and mobile apps natively support Japanese voice recognition — no configuration changes needed, just speak in Japanese and it will be recognized.
Type /config in the chat field to open the settings screen
Select the "Language" option
Change it to ja-JP
Save the settings and run the /voice command again
Even after changing the settings, recognition accuracy may be lower than for English. A practical approach is to speak proper nouns and technical terms in English, or supplement them with keyboard input.
