How to Choose a Pricing Plan

Overview of All Plans

As of June 2026, Claude's pricing structure is summarized in the table below. All prices are in USD, excluding tax, sourced from claude.com/pricing (referenced: 2026-06-14).

Plan Selection Flow

Most cases can be narrowed down with these three questions:

1. Is this for an organization? — If 5 or more people will use it, consider Team or Enterprise first.
2. Will you use it every day for work? — If you use it for professional tasks several times a week or more, Pro offers the best cost-effectiveness as a starting point.
3. Will you use Claude Code intensively? — For heavy use cases like code generation and CI integration, consider Max.

If you just want to try it out, Free is perfectly fine. The typical path is to upgrade to Pro once you hit the usage limits.

What You Can and Cannot Do with the Free Plan

With Free, you can start using the following features immediately after signing up. As of 2026, a surprisingly large number of features are available at no cost.

• Web search (access to real-time information)
• Extended thinking
• Memory (allows Claude to remember information across conversations)

• Connectors

Free plan limitations

• Usage caps apply; Pro / Max users are given priority during high-demand periods
• Claude Code, Claude Design, Research, and Claude Cowork require Pro or above
• There may be limits on the number of projects and conversation history

Pro Plan — The First Paid Option

$20 USD/month (excluding tax). With an annual plan, this drops to the equivalent of $17/month. In addition to all Free features, the following become available:

• Claude Code — A CLI tool that lets you call Claude from the terminal for development
• Claude Cowork — A feature for sharing sessions with other users collaboratively
• Claude Design — Features specialized for design-related tasks
• Research — In-depth research and report generation
• Unlimited projects
• Microsoft 365 / Outlook integration
• Access to additional models

For individuals using Claude every day for professional work, Pro offers the best value.

Max Plan — Choose Based on Usage Volume

Max is designed so that billing varies based on how many times more usage you need compared to Pro. The 5x tier offers 5x the usage of Pro, starting at around $100+/month (excluding tax, USD). The 20x tier offers even higher limits and is primarily aimed at engineers integrating Claude Code into CI/CD pipelines.

Team / Enterprise — For Organizations

Team is now divided into two tiers: Standard ($25/seat/month) and Premium ($125/seat/month). Even the Standard tier includes SSO, an admin console, consolidated billing, and admin controls, making it suitable for organizations of 5–150 people. Enterprise is an individually negotiated contract that meets the requirements of large enterprises, including HIPAA compliance, ZDR (zero data retention), and custom retention periods. It is structured at $20/seat + API usage.

API Pricing Is a Separate Structure

When developers access Claude via the API, pricing is separate from the above plans and is based on per-token usage. API pricing is covered in Level 5.
